Nord Piano 6 88 review verdict

This Nord Piano 6 88 review reads the published specifications from a comparison-first point of view: touch, sound, practice fit, value, and limits.

The Nord Piano 6 88 is a stage piano built around a Triple Sensor keybed with grand weighted action, two piano layers and two sample-synth layers. It has no speakers, no Bluetooth and no metronome, so it belongs in a comparison of performance instruments rather than home practice pianos.

Pros

  • • 88-note Triple Sensor keybed with grand weighted action and three selectable touch curves (Heavy, Medium, Light).
  • • Two independent piano layers and two sample-synth layers, each with its own effects, balanced with LED faders.
  • • An effects section with two modulation blocks, a three-band EQ, amp simulation, compressor, tap-tempo delay and six reverb types including Spring.
  • • Sounds can be swapped with Nord Sound Manager, drawing on the Nord Piano Library and Nord's sample libraries.
  • • Stage-oriented connections: stereo 1/4-inch outputs, a 1/8-inch monitor input, 5-pin MIDI, USB and a dedicated input for the triple pedal.
  • • 576 program locations (16 banks of 36), global transpose of ±6 semitones and a split point selectable in nine positions.
  • • The Nord Triple Pedal 2 is included, so a three-pedal unit is available out of the box.

Cons

  • • No speakers: headphones, a keyboard amplifier or a PA system are always needed.
  • • One headphone output only (1/4-inch, 6.35 mm).
  • • No Bluetooth, no metronome, no recorder and no lesson features.
  • • The piano section lists 120-voice polyphony, a lower published figure than many home digital pianos quote.
  • • At 19.2 kg it is heavier than slim portables, and no stand is included.

The Piano 6 88 is a performance instrument first. Its published strengths are the Triple Sensor keybed, dual piano and dual synth layers with separate effects, and 576 program locations for organising a set. Its limits for home use are just as clear on paper: no speakers, a single headphone output, no Bluetooth and no metronome. Nord now lists the Piano 5 among its legacy products (2021–2025). Both generations list a Triple Sensor keybed and 120-voice polyphony, so a buyer weighing the two will mainly be comparing the layer, fader and effects workflow rather than a new keybed specification. For a player who needs a piano-focused stage keyboard with flexible layering, it is a logical shortlist entry. For a home practice instrument, a model with its own speakers and headphone features is the more practical comparison.

Nord Piano 6 88 evaluation points

Nord Piano 6 88 key action and touch

Nord describes the keyboard as an 88-note Triple Sensor keybed with grand weighted action, labelled heavy, with three touch curves to choose from. Nord's specification page does not state the key surface material or the keybed maker, so we do not state either here. A third sensor per key is intended to improve repeated-note detection; how the heavy action compares with a home console action is something to test in person. We have not played the Piano 6; this note follows Nord's published specification.

Who the Nord Piano 6 88 is for

Gigging pianists, keyboard players in bands, and church or studio players who run the instrument into an amplifier, PA or audio interface. It suits players who layer pianos with strings, pads or other sampled sounds and adjust the balance live with faders. It is not a good fit for a beginner looking for a first home piano, or for anyone who wants to practise without connecting headphones or external amplification.

Nord Piano 6 88 sound and speakers

The piano section draws on the Nord Piano Library across grand, upright, electric, digital/layer, clav/harpsichord and miscellaneous categories, and Nord highlights Advanced String Resonance and Dynamic Pedal Noise. Because the instrument has no speakers, what you hear depends entirely on the headphones, amplifier or PA connected to it. Nord does not publish a factory sound count on its specification page, so we do not quote one.

What to know before buying the Nord Piano 6 88

Nord publishes no prices on its website. The box contains the Nord Triple Pedal 2, user manual and power cord; a stand is not included. The Piano 6 also comes as a 73-key version with the same keybed type, weighing 16.2 kg. Nord's Piano 5 page now sits under Legacy products with the date range 2021–2025.
